PACKAGE TOURS
MINDO BIRDS (3 Days, 2 Nights)
(Nono, Tandayapa, Bellavista, Mindo, “Paz de las aves”, private paths, San Lorenzo range.)
DAY 1
05:30 A.M. We will pick you up at your hotel in Quito and take the old road (unpaved) to the coast, in the direction of Nono, Tandayapa, Bellavista and Mindo. This road is famous for its lovely landscapes and for being one of the best bird-watching zones in all of Ecuador. A specialist guide will accompany us and help us spot many of the region's species. At a good, scenic spot we will have an energizing breakfast.
We will spend an entire morning observing the different types of birds that exist at different altitudes in the highlands, such as the Hooded Mountain-Tananger (Buthraupis montana), the Beautiful Jay (Cyanolyca pulchra), and those that live at slightly lower elevations, such as the spectacular Plate-Billed Mountain-Toucan (Andigena laminirostris).
12:00 A.M. About mid-day we will stop for our lunch at Bellavista, a place known as a sanctuary for hummingbirds. We will be able to see such different and lovely species as the Violet-tailed Sylph (Aglaiocercus coelestis) and the Collared Inca (Coeligena torquata). Bellavista Reserve and the rest of the road to Mindo Garden are excellent spots to continued observation of such species as the Chestnut-crowned Antpitta (Grallaria ruficapilla) and many more.
04:30 P.M. Arrival at Mindo Garden where a comfortable room and grounds with various types of hummingbirds, such as the Purple-throated Woodstar (Calliphlox mitchellii) and the White-necked Jacobin (Florisuga mellivora), await us.
07:00 P.M. Delicious dinner selected from the menu.
In your free time during the day and, of course, after dinner, you can enjoy our facilities and relax by watching a movie, reading, or playing a game of pool.
DAY 2
05:00 A.M. Head out toward the Paz de las aves (Peace of the Birds), a place where we will find a lek for the fabulous Andean Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupícola peruviana). The males of this beautiful specie gather noisily in groups of about 12 individuals to court the females.
In this place surrounded by nature, we will enjoy our Ecuadorian-style breakfast and then spend the rest of the morning having our guide show us the best places to find such spectacular birds as the Giant Antpitta (Grallaria gigantea), or the Orange-breasted Fruiteater (Pipreola Jucunda).
12:00 A.M. We will enjoy our gourmet cuisine in the form of typical Ecuadorian and international dishes.
02:00 P.M. We will take an approximately three-hour walk along our private paths, where we will encounter the lovely flora, fauna and birds of the primary forest. Here, we will have the opportunity to see such spectacular specimins as the Chestnut-mandibled Toucan (Ramphastos swainsonii) and the fabulous Quetzal.
